            Description

            I need PIG-3444 to be back-ported to CDH 5.4 Pig 0.12, so that I can back-port SPRINTF from Pig 0.14 to DataFu 1.3.0 and make it available to CDH Pig 0.12 users. I wrote a book that uses CDH 5.3 (and could use 5.4 beta) and the bundled Pig is the only version that will work with CDH (I have tried Apache Pig in the past, it never works, tons of bugs on CDH). In the book, we make heavy use of SPRINTF, which is neither in Pig 0.12 nor can it be included as a UDF because PIG-3444 is missing, and SPRINTF depends on PIG-3444.

            Cloudera has failed to upgrade Pig for a couple years, and this back-porting would mitigate this problem. For comparison, HDP 2.2 includes Apache Pig 0.14.0.

            I am happy to do the work myself, and can submit a patch. Would you accept this patch? Please, accept this patch.
