Description
Some applications require partitioning by data that isn't part of an entity. Versioning is a good example, where customers could attach a version to every entity written to get a dataset with different partitions for each new revision of the dataset. Instead of forcing users to add a version to each record and include it in the schema, we could add a "provided" partition function that doesn't get data from the record, but instead from the view. Users would only be able to read and write through views that provide the field.
